After the battle of Antietam, 17 September 1862, President Lincoln visited the Army of the Potomac, and this view shows the President and General McClellan in McClellan's tent at Army Headquarters, Antietam. The president sits with his hands in his lap, his top hat resting on a table draped with an American flag behind him. Catalogued in Ostendorf [O-67 A/B], though Ostendorf dates the original capture of the image to 3 October.
